About Aaron Mahi

Aaron Mahi was the conductor of the Royal Hawaiian Band for more then 24 years, between 1981 and 2005, and he was the conductor of the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra from 1988 through 1995. Aaron can be seen nearly every Sunday evening, at the Marriott Waikiki Hotel, singing traditional Hawaiian songs with George Kuo and Martin Pahinui.

  • Graduated from Kamehameha Schools High School in 1971.
  • Received a music education degree from the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford in Connecticut
  • Also attended the Herbert Bloomsted Institute of Conducting at Loma Linda University in California.
  • Early in his career he worked as a bass player
  • Has been the conductor of the Hawaii Ecumenical Chorale since 1980
  • Conductor of the Honolulu Symphony from 1988 through 1995 Did he become the conductor again in 2005?
  • Bandmster and conductor of the Royal Hawaiian band for more then 24 years, from 1981 through February 15, 2005.
  • He received Golden Ring of Honor from the Association of German Musicians; and Order of Merit of Germany.
