I took this picture of Cyril Pahinui at a slack key guitar workshop he presented the day before he performed at the January 2009 Southern California Slack Key Guitar Festival in Redondo Beach. More photos of that workshop and some Spring 2009 news about Cyril are coming soon.

  • Birth Date: April 21, 1950
  • Son of the iconic Gabby Pahinui
  • Siblings: 5 brothers and 4 sisters
  • Grew up in Waimanalo on the island of Oahu
  • Married to Chelle Pahinui
  • Played in his father's "The Gabby Band" at age 15
  • Formed his own group"The Sandwich Isle Band" in 1975
  • Joined the Peter Moon and Played on four of their albums
  • Recorded his first solo album in 1988 "Cyril Pahinui"
  • Winner of 5 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards
  • Appeared twice at Carnegie Hall
  • Taught guitar at the University of Hawaii
  • Performs solo and with his Pahinui Hawaiian Band

    Cyril Pahinui Workshops
    Cyril presented a slack key guitar workshop the day before the January 2009 Southern California Slack Key Guitar Festival and I believe he is scheduled to present another at the 2009 E Hula Mau hula and chant competition in Long Beach, California over the September 2009 Labor Day weekend.
