About Maunalua
Maunalua is a Hawaiian music trio with a unique sound
featuring falsetto voices, slack key guitar, and
beautifully blended harmonies. Their sound
includes components of traditional Hawaiian music
and contemporary island style music that pleases
fans of both.

The above picture of Maunalua's Kahi Kaonohi,
Bobby Moderow, Jr., and Richard Gideon was taken
at Duke's Waikiki Barefoot Bar, a beachfront bar and
Hawaiian music venue in the Outrigger Wakiki Hotel.
Maunalua can often be seen performing there
in the late afternoon on Friday.
Facts About Maunalua
Founder Bobby Moderow, Jr. studied
slack key guitar with the legendary Ray Kane and he
performed at Roy's in Hawaii Kai for more then 12 years
before he formed the group Maunalua in 1993.
Original band members were Bobby Moderow, Jr,
Kahi Kaonohi, and Bruce Spencer, When
Bruce left the group in 2009
Richard Gideon joined the group.
The group and their three albums have received
multiple Na Hoku Hanohano Awards including
favorite entertainer, two group of the year awards,
and a best traditional album award.
