The album "Vintage Hawaiian Treasures Vol. 9: Aloha Hula Hawaiian Style"
featuring Al Kealoha Perry and his Singing Surfriders won the
1996 Na Hoku Hanohano Award for best anthology album released in 1995.

He was born in Kohala on the Big Island of Hawaii
Had a Hawaiian mother and an English father
Met his wife Kathleen Kameelani McGuire Perry in 1919 and they got married in
(I think) 1920.
Began singing in 1929 with the Aloha Temple Shrine Chanters
In 1935 he headed the Honolulu Hale Glee Club
Later those singers were known as the Singing Surfriders
Al Kealoha Perry's wife Kathleen Perry co-owned and
managed the Willows Restaurant in the Moiliili District of Honolulu
from 1944 to 1980. The restaurant at 901 Hausten Street was
her mother's old family home. The Willows was sold to Randy Lee in 1980
and he cosed in in 1993. It reopened again sometime later.
Kathleen Perry died on January 30, 1999 in Honolulu's Queens Hospital at age 96.
Was music director of many Hawaii Calls" radio and television shows
and also music director of most of the radio show's recordings.
He was active in teh 1930's to 1960's and his genre has
often been described as easy listening. Most well known billing
was "Al Kealoha Perry and His Singing Surfriders".
