The legendary percussionist Augie Colon is
most well known for performing exotic
animal sounds on the recordings of Martin
Denny in the 1950's and his own recordings
in the 1960's.
Facts About Augie Colon
Percussionist and the voice of jungle sounds
Born in 1928
In 1955 he played at Don the Beachcomber's
in Honolulu with a combo that include
Augie Colon on Precussion and birdcalls,
Arthur Lyman on the vibraphone, John Kramer
on string bass, and Martin Denny on Piano.

Was the voice of the exotic jungle
sounds of Martin Denny's 1956 recording "Quiet Village",
He was married to his second wife Phytllis Uilani Kaahanui
for 30 years. They moved to Molokai in 1971 (I think)
Sons: August B. Lopaka Colon, Kaika Colon, and Kohn Kekoa Colon
Daughters: Delores Verbanic, Yolanda Colon,
Estrellita Ann Burley, Juanita Colon and Phyllis Colon
Grandaughter (daughter of Lopaka) is named Imani
Hnai daughters: Tiffany Cureton and Kelsey Richardson
Died at age 74 in Honolulu Friday, June 4, 2004 at Queen's
Medical Center from complications of diabetes
