His father was a cattle rancher

He grew up working as a paniolo and speaking Hawwaiian

Formed his own band when he graduated from HS in 1931

Moved to Oahu and was working nightclubs by 1938

Sang from 1930's to 1970's

First sang straight tenor but later, influenced by Lena Machado and George Kainapau, he specialized in falsetto
