Bio of Dennis Kamakahi
Full Name: Dennis David Kahekilimamaoikalanikeha Kamakahi
Goes By: Dennis Kamakahi
Birth Date: March 31, 1953
Birth Place: Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii
His father played trombone in the Royal Hawaiian Band
He started playing professionally when he was 16.
He and Cyril Pahinui started a group after they left
high school called Na Leo O Nuuanu. Cyril Pahinui
was in that band with him and the group played
together for about two years. They backed up Palani Vaughn
in the early to mid 1970's.
After Gabby Pahinui left the sons of Hawaii to form
his own Band Eddie Kamae asked Dennis to join the
Sons of Hawaii. Dennis played with the Sons of Hawaii
for about 23 years.
His newest group is called Na Oiwi and it features
his son, and a contemporary Hawaiian Musician,
named Jon Yamasato
