In 2005 a Hawaiian music category was added to the Grammy Awards for the first time in history. The first winner was presented with an award at an awards ceremony on Sunday, February 13, 2005. The winner of the 2005 Grammy Award for Hawaiian Music was "Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar, Masters Collection, Volume II" by Windom Hill Records, and featuring Bob Brozman, Cyril Pahinui, Dennis Kamahaki, George Kahumoki, James Pahinui, Kekuhi Kanabelo, Keola Beamer, Ledward Kaapana, Leonard Kwan, Ozzie Kotani, Ray Kane, Sonny Chillingworth, and the Pahinui Hawaiian Slack Key Band.
