Local radio personality Harry B. Soria and
"Hawaiian songbird" Karen Keawehawaii hosted the
12th annual Aloha Festivals Falsetto Contest on
Friday, October 13, 2006 in the Monarch Ballroom of the
Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Waikiki. The Aloha Festivals
Falsetto contest is a Hawaiian falsetto singing
competition for amateur male singers age 18 and over.
In addition to the falsetto contest, the event included
several inductions into the Hawaiian Falsetto Hall of Fame.
There were also live performances by some of Hawaii's top falsetto singers,
including Grammy award nominee Raiatea Helm, who performed surprise
duets with living treasures Genoa Keawe and Richard Hoopii.
2004 falsetto contest winner Lawrence Pau performed with his band
before the contest, and there was a special appearance by Pau's
nephew, six year old Zane Kaaialii.
